Bone becomes "empty", there are generally 4 symptoms, if you don’t have all of them, osteoporosis is still far away from you

In recent years, osteoporosis has become a very common disease, it is because of low bone mass, bone microstructure is damaged, so bone fragility increases, especially easy to fracture. Osteoporosis occurs in all ages, but it is most likely to occur in postmenopausal women and elderly men.

Fracture caused by osteoporosis has great harm, which may make elderly patients disabled or even fatal. If hip fracture occurs, within one year, about 20% of patients will die due to a variety of inevitable diseases, and about 50% of patients will become disabled, seriously affecting their quality of life.

Visible, osteoporosis is a terrible disease, the following are the four symptoms of osteoporosis, to read carefully.

1. Pain

Low back pain is the most common symptom of osteoporosis, especially when vertebral compression fracture occurs on the spine, but there are a small number of patients who have fracture without obvious symptoms.

Some patients do not have a clear history of disease, often because of some particularly minor movements caused by fractures, and cause pain. The pain is often light and lasting, sometimes strong to a certain extent, but it is still lasting. After severe pain relief, there will be different degrees of chronic pain.

Causes of pain:

① Excessive bone turnover leads to more absorption of bone by cells, resulting in lighter and more brittle bone, and even bone fracture, bone perforation, resulting in systemic pain;

② Under the action of gravity, it causes pain because the bone strength is greatly reduced, resulting in vertebral wedge-shaped deformation and fishtail like deformation.

③ Because of the deformation of the bone, the muscle tension attached to the bone changes, and the muscle is more prone to fatigue, spasm and myomembranous pain.

2. Shortened height, hunchback

Shorten, hunchback is mainly due to the increase in body load and make the body compression, deformation, which will lead to body shortening, hunchback symptoms, so as to make osteoporosis worse.

In osteoporosis, trabecula of pyramidal bone is damaged, bone production is reduced, bone strength is weakened, and vertebral body is easily deformed. Severe osteoporosis can shorten the spine by 9-15cm.

Research shows that women after the age of 60, men after the age of 65 are particularly prone to height atrophy. Because of the structure of the spine, the vertebral body will be compressed, but the posterior structure of the vertebral body such as spinous process, lamina, vertebral arch will not be compressed, so there will be kyphosis and anterior concave phenomenon. For various reasons, some patients will become scoliosis.

3. Fracture

Because primary osteoporosis first occurs in the cancellous area of bone, the number of trabeculae is decreased or even broken, and cortical bone will produce perforation, cortical thinning, and then the bone strength is decreased, so it is easy to fracture. Therefore, the cancellous area is the place where the fracture first appears in osteoporosis.

The three most common fractures in patients with osteoporosis are vertebral compression fractures, hip fractures and distal radius fractures.

According to the survey data of the United States in 1984, there are 1.2 million osteoporosis patients in the United States every year, of which 538000 are spinal compression fractures, 227000 are hip fractures, and 283000 are distal radius fractures. The speed and time of cortical and cancellous reduction determine the type of fracture.

The incidence of vertebral fracture and distal radius fracture increased after menopause, but decreased after 65 years old, but the incidence of vertebral fracture increased continuously. The incidence of hip fracture, which is relatively slow, increases significantly after old age. About 1/3 of women over the age of 65 have vertebral compression fractures, and about 12% to 20% of the elderly die as a result.

The characteristics of fracture caused by osteoporosis: under the action of sweeping the floor, sitting up, twisting, walking and other slight external forces, fracture may occur.

4. Decreased respiratory function

The decrease of respiratory function caused by osteoporosis is mainly due to the compression of the heart caused by spinal deformity and thoracic deformity. Although patients with shortness of breath, chest tightness, dyspnea and other symptoms are rare, but vital capacity and maximum ventilation capacity decreased significantly.

So how to prevent osteoporosis?

1. Eat foods with high calcium content, such as pork, chicken, fish, bean products, nuts and fresh milk

2. Appropriate exercise, the elderly to do some low difficulty movements

3. Appropriate amount of sun exposure can transform the skin into vitamin D and promote the absorption of calcium

4. Prevent fall and fracture; Smoking cessation can prevent osteoporosis to a certain extent; Postmenopausal women need to supplement estrogen and anti osteoporosis drugs.

Although the mortality rate of osteoporosis is not high, people suffering from osteoporosis are really suffering. A careless turn and a stride are willing to have fractures. They will hurt when they move, and it will hurt when others move, which is very painful.

Therefore, we should pay attention to the occurrence of osteoporosis in advance. After menopause, women should supplement calcium in an appropriate amount. At the same time, their daily diet should be reasonable. Make yourself and your family healthier and happier!
